The name of my bakery café will be “Never Fully Dressed,” based on the song form the musical Annie, “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile.” I’m calling it this, as the goal of my career is to do something that makes me happy, baking, and to make others smile. The hope is that as they walk by the bakery, the small will make them smile, entering, the ambiance and staff will make them smile, and most importantly, with every bite of our sweet confections, their cheeks will eventually become sore from smiling.
Hanover Hew Hampshire is the town of my choosing, specifically Main Street. It’s near where I grew up, and it’s a very sweet town. Similar to Montpelier, it has a very friendly feel, clean streets, and Mom ‘n’ Pop stores and restaurants. Though there are a few bakeries, they’re much more sophisticated and expensive than I intend my bakery to be. I want my bakery to feel casual, friendly, and a place that people would want to return too for wonderful service, and great food at low prices. This will benefit the community as Dartmouth College is in Hanover, and college students often want to buy large quantities of baked goods for events, team banquets, and parties, but they don’t want to spend large amounts of money. I plan on making my bakery items at a price anyone can afford, and also making things for charity events.
The bakery will be mainly dessert type items; cupcakes, pastries, cakes, and cookies. But, I also plan on having crepes available for breakfast, and paninis, salads, and seasonal soups as a lunch item. A coffee bar will be open throughout the morning and afternoon. I plan on having gluten free options as well, as it’s a rapidly growing food allergy and diet trend.
It will be a fairly small establishment. There will be tables and chairs to seat about 20, as well as a sitting area with comfortable armchairs. During the warm months, I’d love to have outdoor seating as well.
Never Fully Dressed will be a comfortable and happy bakery that people of Hanover will want to return to again and again.
