The Trapdoor Bakehouse & Café rests above the scenic Quechee Gorge. It is owned and run by Chef Theodora Damaskos. This bakery creates every item they sell from scratch. Local ingredients are showcased as often as possible, and the menu contains both savory and sweet items.
Hot Air Balloon Adventure
Darrek, of Balloons of Vermont, is a regular visiter to the Trapdoor Bakehouse. After taking flights with his clients, they all gather at Trapdoor for champagne and a brunch that we provide. On my last day of work, Darrek was about to take a couple from Orlando for a flight. He called my chef, and said that there was enough room in the balloon for an extra passenger. I was so surprised and excited when Chef asked if I wanted to take the extra spot! I jumped at the chance. I helped in setting up the balloon at the Vermont Institute of Natural Science by holding the base open while it filled with air via a very powerful fan. We were then able to take a beautiful hour and a half long flight over Vermont in the fall. Spanning about 12 miles, we peacefully floated through the cloud line. I was so happy and grateful to have flown in the balloon. It was a fabulous adventure on my last day of internship.
